“Stay the Course.” This realization is how I’m starting my day. This simple movie line – The Patriot – has penetrated my mind and made me become aware of one simple truth. I’ve wondered off my path!
Today started normal enough. My alarm went off and I finally got up about 15 minutes later. I threw on my sweats, went downstairs, made my morning travel cup of ‘Joe’ (coffee) and drove my son to school. He has to be there 30 minutes earlier then my girls, he is one of the older kids that help the younger ones out of their cars and to their class. I was talking with a brother of mine the other day, and a thought came out of my mouth I had never had before, “I use to be envious when I would see all the pictures of you guys out at all those events or showing off the new bikes”. This in itself was not at all surprising, what I said next was eye-opening. “But now, I look at what you are accomplishing and instead of envy I feel inspired.” This was a revelation for me. I realized at that moment that the constant work I have done with living by spiritual principles may actually be paying off. “The Journey is my Destination”. I first heard this statement from an old mentor of mine. It stuck with me then and made a small impact on how I began to see my days. But, as I have journeyed through the past 20 months. The meaning behind this statement has deepened within me.
When I began working on this mediation series, I had no idea how much the preliminary research would impact me. I have already began to see the changes in myself, since I began this journey. And though I have been through the 12 Steps of a recovery program, a few times. Each time I dive into them, a new part of me seems to be awaken. Of course, that is part of the purpose.
